Who you’re dealing with
Nicholas
California State Controller’s Office
I’m Nicholas. I live in Alamo, California, and I do one thing for a living: I find money the State of California is holding for people who don’t know it’s theirs, and I help them recover it.
My background is data research. A while back I noticed that a lot of the money the State holds is owed to businesses that have dissolved. Nobody at the State connects the old entity back to the living person who’s entitled to the funds, so the money sits. Making that connection, and then running the State’s claim process end to end, is what I do.
I write to you because I’ve already done that research for a business connected to you. I don’t cold-call, I don’t send anything before I have a specific reason, and I never ask for money up front.
How to verify me
Look up the money yourself. Any California unclaimed property is searchable by the public at claimit.ca.gov. Search the business name from your letter.
Read about the Investigator program. The State Controller’s Office describes the registered Investigator program on its own site, sco.ca.gov.
Confirm the company. Tahoma Ventures LLC is a registered California limited liability company; you can look it up on the California Secretary of State business search.
